QUESTION: HOW DO I GET A DECENT SPARK? WITH A DIFFERENT STEEL I GET LOTS, BUT NOT WITH THE NOTCHES ON THE KNIFE.
• The outer surface of Magnesium will oxidize/corrode in contact with Oxygen, nitrogen, water, iron, nickel, copper, or esp. cobalt. Not sure what alloy is used here, but most oxidize/corrode as well, to create a thin coating that limits future corrosion, but also gets in the way. First time, and whenever using after a few weeks/months, scraping off a bit of the outer oxidized layer first will give you material just underneath that sparks better. If you'll only use the starter occasionally, you might roll it up in an airtight snack baggie, with the air squeezed out, between uses, to limit the barely perceptible corrosion. Use a different baggie to hold your starter material or dryer lint.
• put the steel at an angle and apply significant pressure in a downward motionit may take a try or two to get right
• I had to scratch a lot of the coating off of the Flint striker to get a decent spark, however sparks are still not long lasting you need quick catching material to get a fire going, I used dryer lint, and have lit 3 fires.
• Use the notches to scrape off little pieces of the metal, then use the back of the knife (not the notches) to strike quickly down the flint. Pressure helps, but you don't need to force it too hard. It will be bright like a sparkler.
• I always use the blade edge of the knife and i get great sparks from it
• Try the back of the blade at an angle. The notches aren't meant for striking. If that fails try the sharp side of the blade closest to the handle known as the heal, that should also get you a spark without damaging the cutting edge.
• You have to use like a sharpish edge not the blade but like it can't be rounded and to get better sparks you have to kinda push harder
• the cuts on the back of the blade are there to give you better control when making fine cuts or using extra pressure. I use the blade at the choil to make a spark and get good results. Also, the more you scrape the ferro rod the stronger the sparks will get until they are at max.

QUESTION: ARE THERE ANY OTHER SHEATHS THAT WOULD FIT THIS KNIFE?
• Not sure, but the sheathing that comes with this knife is quality.
• Are you asking if there are sheaths on Amazon that will fit this knife? Or are you asking if this knife will fit into a different sheath? The answer is, yes, to both. The blade portion is approx 3.5 long by 1.25 wide. With those dims I am sure you could find another sheath to use. However, the stock sheath is just fine. I Gorilla glued a MOLLE strap to the back of it and mounted it on my PC.
#Survivor_HK-106320DG

QUESTION: IS IT SHARP?
• It has a nice edge but you could make it razor sharp if you wanted.
• The Knife is "Very-Sharp" It is Good Steel & holds a Good Edge!! I would own a couple of them because the price is good, the Knife is good & a GREAT "back-up" knife as well
• Very Sharp, and it holds a good edge.
• Yes it has a new sharp edge on it and it is actually so sharp you have to be careful when taking it in and out of the sheath.
• not yet
• It's not super sharp but it gets the job done. They have knife sharpeners for like $5 online or even in stores. It I assume it could be easily sharpened.
• It is semi sharp, I had to use a knife sharpener on it. But after that, YES!
• Yes it was actually decently sharp. Very easy to sharpen, anyway, but it came pretty sharp to begin with :) Obviously, this isn't a Leatherman or a SOG knife, but it's definitely a great knife for the price.
• Plenty enough for me. I can't say how well it will hold an edge. Perhaps if I hunt more wild boar with it I will be able to report back :)
• The picture doesn't say much I know. It is sharp but by "what standard", in comparison to real work and survival tools like Leatherman and S&W this little knife is just a fun toy. Might be able to sharpen it but its still black coated which is almost useless. I intend to take it camping and fashion it to a stick to use multi purpose. It's ok for the price but not for the price of shipping. It's just a toy in my eyes. Hope that helps
#Fixed_Blade_Outdoor

QUESTION: WHERE IS THIS KNIFE MADE IN?
• Made in China.
• China
• Made in China , like 80% of all knives these days. It is a nice little knife that is functional and better quality than the price would suggest.
• Hand forged in China.
• I'd say China, but it is a great knife and fire starter combo though at an even better price, just don't count on using the cord wrap for anything, it's worthless and will fall apart within a couple weeks
#Survivor_HK-106320DG_Review

QUESTION: HOW DOES THE FIRE STATER WORK?
• It is a small steel rod. You scrape your knife down it to create a spark. A cotton ball soaked in petroleum jelly will light easily and burn for 3-4 min. This can be used to start a fire. Hope this helped.
• Haven't had it out in the field yet so I haven't started a lot of fires with it. I throws a lot of sparks-- more than other fire starters I've successfully used in the past. More sparks = easier fire starting, right?
• Works quite nicely. Don't have much experience using fire starters but I have used this one to make a few good fires. Worth the few bucks it cost.
• The fire starter works great once you get the protective coating off.
• Persistence, the cylindrical apparatus must be scraped free of its black coating before sparks can occur. A little frustrating and time consuming at first but will certainly satisfy your needs once you figure it out.
• Honestly I was striking it all wrong when I first got it and it broke but it still strikes the rod is just a little shorter.
• IT IS VERY FINE PRODUCT
• You scrape the flint on one of nobs on the other side of the blade really hard
• Not very well. Tried with dry cedar shavings, dry ripped paper towel, dry paper, then finally the same paper with kerosene on it... Nothing. Lots of sparks tho...sure was pretty.
• Don't even bother. Just buy a Bic lighter.
#Survivor_HK-106320DG_Fixed_Blade_Outdoor

QUESTION: WHAT IS THE BLADE'S LENGTH?
• The actual blade is approx 3 inches. 7 overall and the handle takes up 4. Its a comfortable size if youre not looking for a rambo knife
• About 3 inches.
• I think 3 to 4in if I remember correctly.
• It's just barley shy of 3 inches of cutting surface length
• It's about 3 inches not very sharp when it comes but sharpens nicely.
• 3 in.
• 2 inches in length.
#Survivor_HK-106320DG

QUESTION: IS THIS STRONG ENOUGH TO BATON THROUGH SMALL PIECES OF WOOD; HOW THICK IS THE BLADE?
• 1/8" thick in the back, 1/16" on the business end. 7"long with 3" of edge. could most likely stick wood well but would go dull pretty quick. not bad for the price but a gerber will always be my blade of choice. mike
• It's thicker than most blades. It's a very good thickness for any knife much less a cheap one and feels very sturdy. The blade is perfect for pushing through wood. Small is relative so I don't know what thickness you consider thin though. I will say one of the first thoughts I had was that it would be perfect as a spear head. Really, you cant go wrong with this knife. I love mine.
• The blade is about 1/8" thick. I can get a precise measurement later. The edge is built more like a chisel. I'm not about to mess with the one I have ready to present right now, but based on my experience with woodcarving I would say it could be pounded through twigs up to a half inch thick. I wouldn't pry with it.
• Must be sharpend
• The knife is garbage i wouldn't trust it to baton wood but it was a nice free knife with the 6 dollar ferro rod
#Fixed_Blade_Outdoor

QUESTION: HOW LONG IS THE BLADE?
• The knife itself is 7" long with the cutting edge being 3".
• Knife blade is ~ 3 inches
• I would say about four inches the blade is heavy n durable but don't use it on fire stick use a smaller blade such as a pocket knife works much better .
• 3 inches
• 4 inch
• legal enough to carry around to be honest but check your carry laws if you plan on it
#Survivor_HK-106320DG_Review

QUESTION: HAS ANYONE BOUGHT A BETTER SHEATH FOR THIS KNIFE? IF SO, WHERE AND HOW MUCH?
• Not personally. And to be honest, the cost to purchase a better sheath for this knife would likely be a good deal greater than the cost of this knife itself. However, I did modify the sheath some after I purchased this knife prior to switching over to the BK11. Doing so can add decent bit of functionality to the sheath for different carry styles and other possible additions. Doing so is relatively simple, just heat up a screwdriver with a lighter and poke it through the sheath, try to stay near the edges when doing so. Then simply use some paracord or anything else you have available to make belt loops or whatever else you might need. Not the best option in the world, but it works if you are on a budget. If you are really desperate for a better sheath though, I would suggest just spending the money and getting a better knife. There are several options for between $20-30.
• Hello, I make my own sheaths out of leather...you'd have to get one made from a person who makes sheaths, or improvise one (leather) from another knife of similar size and shape. bob
#Survivor_HK-106320DG_Fixed_Blade_Outdoor

QUESTION: THE BLACK ONE DOES NOT HAVE A PICTURE OF A SHEATH, BUT THE DESCRIPTION SAYS IT IS INCLUDED. DOES THE BLACK ONE COME WITH A SHEATH?
• The one I purchased did have a sheath, but it was green. You may need to contact the seller.
• Mine did
• I would assume so but there is more than one posting you should be able to find one that says specifically whether or not it does have the sheath.
#Survivor_HK-106320DG

QUESTION: HOW GOOD IS THE KNIFE?
• Well, it's an eight dollar knife. I do not find mine to be very sharp upon arrival. I took a sharpener, & a sharpening stone to it, and that helped. Still, it's not my sharpest knife but I have worn it on my belt (with a Buck clipped into my pocket that is sharp as a razor). The knife looks rather military, and the fire starter works really well, I find! Run one of the indentations on the back of the knife over the starter stick until the paint scrapes off, one or two strong jerks and you've got some red hot steel sparks on your kindling. I bet you could swim across a river and still get good sparks from it! $8 dollars well spent, for me. Good luck! Want sharp? Get a $30 Gerber, Or a Buck, SOG, or $100 Benchmade. :-)
• I got mine sharp but it took a grinder to adjust the blade angle.
• I wouldn't buy it again.
• Amazing !!! Used it many times
• It seems well made, I got it and put it in my back pack.
#Fixed_Blade_Outdoor

QUESTION: HOW LONG IS THE HANDLE
• About 3 1/8 inches it depends on how much of the bottom of the handle you count but between 3 and 3.5 inches just enough for an average size hand to hold comfortably.
• From the hook right at the edge of the cutting blade ( where your finger would be ) to the end of the handle is 3 and 5/8 inches .It actually is pretty comfortable for such a small handle .
#Survivor_HK-106320DG_Review

QUESTION: WHAT ARE THE BUMPS ON THE SPINE OF THE KNIFE FOR? IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A SAW......
• It's called jimping, it's there for grip for your thumb. Not to be used as a saw.
• As far as I can tell they are there from thumb grip purposes, as in when you push down to cut something and have your thumb on the spine. Also can be used with the firestarter if you end up keeping it..
• Those are actually used for the fire starter stick. You basically strike the stick against those bumps quickly and it creates a spark which is what will help start your fire. Hope this helps.
• for the flint sparker...scraping the part of the knife on the flint stick will create the spark to start your fires...beware,,i did not recieve green sheath or cord wrap..mine was all black....
• those are called Jibbing and the purpose is to grant greater grip/slip resistance. you put your thumb there
#Survivor_HK-106320DG_Fixed_Blade_Outdoor

QUESTION: IS THIS MADE IN THE USA? OR CHINA?
• Usa, but with very thin steel, it's a good knife I love it and after rewrapping it its better:)
• Hand forged in China
• China
• Says in the product description: Origin - China.
• Usa
• I'm sorry my info was wromg. Its made in USA. Its a good knife. I carried one almost like it when I was in the marines.
• China
• In usa
#Survivor_HK-106320DG

QUESTION: I BOUGHT THE KNIFE, BUT I STILL DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE THE FIRE STARTER. ANYBODY KNOW HOW?
• Yes. First, get some tinder....dryer lint works great, but so does a tissue. Scrape the flint slowly. It's magnesium, so scrape flakes off onto the tinder. Enough flakes or pieces to cover your small fingernail will more than work. Once you have your small pile of flakes on the tinder, strike the fire starter with the knife in glancing blows. This will create sparks. When a spark hits your tinder pile, it will ignite. BEWARE...this stuff (magnesium) will burn through an aluminum pan. I would not do this inside either. Good luck. BTW....the knife really sucks as a knife.
• Scrape the backside of the blade downward along the ferrocenium rod. It should produce white colored sparks, which when applied to tinder will create fire. I would recommend youtube.com for visual aids.
#Fixed_Blade_Outdoor

QUESTION: WHAT TYPE OF STEEL IS THIS?
• I am not sure, but the blade is very sharp. Stainless does not seem to get this sharp. This leads me to believe that it is a grade of carbon steel.
• Do not know. The best part of the knife is the fire starter. You can get a better knife and fire starter at Walmart for less.
• don't know
• Mine says 440 stainless right on the side
#Survivor_HK-106320DG_Review

QUESTION: HAS ANYONE ASKED IF THIS KNIFE FOR KILLING A BEAR? I REALLY NEED TO KNOW BEFORE PURCHASING ANY KNIFE.
• This knife is very short, so even if you were able to penetrate the bear's skin, it would not do any real damage.
• To better answer I would need to know what kind of bear? Are you hinting the bear or for self defense in bear attacks? Polar? Grizzly? Black? Panda? Your dog named bear? Smokey? You should probably buy at least 5 of this size knife and tie them to the end of a stick to make a spear. I have other tips here: http://amemphistraveler.blogspot.com
• No, the blade is small and you won't get through any vitals organs. Excuse me for saying this but you will be crazy to get into a fight with a bear using any knives. So I hope you are kidding.
• Not recommended at all. This is a piece of junk. You may kill a chicken with it.
#Survivor_HK-106320DG_Fixed_Blade_Outdoor

QUESTION: WHAT KIND OF GRIND IS THE EDGE?
• Don't know but the fire steel broke on the first attempt at use and I am still trying to get a replacement
• hey ill be completely honest I am not sure. What i can tell you is that it took about 2-3 stokes for the flint to start spitting sparks. once it got broken in, it worked real well.
• It has no edge.I had to put on a edge.
#Survivor_HK-106320DG

QUESTION: CAN I PACK THIS IN CHECKED LUGGAGE FOR AN AIRPLANE WITHOUT IT GETTING CONFISCATED?
• You should be able to, the blade is not very long. You might want to compare the length with the rules of the airline.
• Don't get this knife.. It sucks.. Really really bad..
• If you want to risk being delayed for hours, in a holding cell, and maybe even put in jail and on the "DO NOT FLY LIST". You go right ahead. I say use common sense and read all the restrictions. They say you can check it ok, but it harder to explain after they find it.
• Well they say that your luggage is x-rayed, I'm not to sure if that's true. but with all of the crap going on, you don't want some over zealous J---A-- making you out to be someone your not!!!!!!!! Being escorted off a plane these days is more scarier than in the past....
#Fixed_Blade_Outdoor

QUESTION: IS IT AMERICAN MADE BLADE
• Nope.Says China on the blade
• I wouldn't think so for the price. Sturdy little knife though. Handy if you need something to start a fire or have to cut some small things.
• On the blade itself it says, handforged in China.
#Survivor_HK-106320DG_Review

QUESTION: IS IT WRAPPED IN PARACORD OR NYLON?
• Yes it is
• Sorry hit sent on accident... Yes it wrapped on paracord
• The knife in Paracord
• Well from my experience Paracord either comes as Nylon Paracord or Polyester Paracord. They have the same "Break" strength but nylon is a bit more flexible and costs more. So to answer your question.... Yes it is wrapped in paracord, I just don't know what material.
• nylon
• Nylon which is not real 550 Paracord, which is a true Mil Spec item and is a far superior cord, but most of the stuff you see marked as 550 Paracord is counterfeit stuff produced in China. But you can rewrap with the real stuff, or (better) just put a longer (and much more useful) piece of the real stuff in your bag for when you need it.
#Survivor_HK-106320DG_Fixed_Blade_Outdoor

QUESTION: IS THIS CAST IRON?
• no
• No it's some kind of cheap weak hollow ground or stamped junk not worth the time to ship back
• No. It's stainless steel.
• striker is magnesium, Knife is some form of steel, if it is stainless it is not a high quality.
#Survivor_HK-106320DG

QUESTION: HOW MUCH PARA-CORD IS ON IT IN "
• not much. it isnt real 550 p[aracord. cheap nockoff. but well made. fire starter wont start a fire. the paracord well i took it off the fire starter. and i couldnt break it. it stretched some but did not break easy.
• Just about what it looks like 3 inches for the strap and the grip wrap as pictured
• And the firestarter works perfectly you just have to remove the coating youtube has plenty of instructional videos to use
• About 12 feet.
• Like 10 fts
• Mine had 74 inches of cord, it was not para cord but similar to a boot lace.
• There is about 6.5 feet in the handle...but it's not Para-cord. It's just a generic cord. I did a re-wrap with 550 para-cord.
#Fixed_Blade_Outdoor

QUESTION: IS THE BLADE MADE OF 440 STEEL OR AUS-6?
• The steel in unknown to me. It does hold a good edge. I carry mine daily works great as a utility knife.
• I'm not 100% sure! but I believe the blade is 440. For the price you can't go wrong.
#Survivor_HK-106320DG_Review

QUESTION: HOW LONG IS JUST THE BLADE?
• It's 3" on the dot. 7" overall.
• Around 3 inches good knife for the cash
• 4"
• About 5 inches
• I can measure it exactly, but this knife has a small rounded finger-grip, so do you want the measurement for only the sharpened blade area? The whole knife itself is smaller than expected. The blade itself is probably less than 3", but I love the black coating...I use it on my boat and have had no rusting or corrosion issues at all... the only complaint is the holster - I wish is snapped so I could attach it to armrests or something else other than my belt - this knife is not big enough to carry on your belt so it makes the holster a little useless.
#Survivor_HK-106320DG_Fixed_Blade_Outdoor

QUESTION: DOES COME BY FEDEX,MAIL OR ANY OTHER THING? AND DO YOU HAVE TO SIGN A PAPER FOR CONTRACT BEFORE YOU HAVE THIS AWESOME KNIFE?
• No contract. Comes in USPS Mail. Ships same day.
• It comes via USPS. Nothing to sign
#Survivor_HK-106320DG

QUESTION: WOULD THIS WORK AS PROTECTION FROM PIT BULLS WHILE YOU'RE OUT WALKING?
• I mean, maybe, you'd probably still get bit if the animal was aggressive but you'd harm the animal with it. It's a smaller knife but very sturdy.
• Probably only as a last resort. It's not a great knife. In fact, it's a pretty pathetic knife. If you want protection from critters, I recommend Frontiersman Bear Spray with Hip Holster - Maximum Strength & 30-foot Range (7.9 oz) If you can't stop a dog with spray designed to stop a grizzly bear, maybe you should consider something with the Smith and Wesson name on it.
#Fixed_Blade_Outdoor

QUESTION: HOW LONG IS THE BLADE
• The blade is 3" the knive is a total of 7".
• The actual sharpened edge of the blade is 3 inches.
• It should say on the page, You can choose how long the blade is I think
#Survivor_HK-106320DG_Review

QUESTION: CAN THE SHEATH BE ATTACHED TO A BELT?
• Yes, but I personally wouldn't.. The material is not very good and once this blade is sharp, and if its on your side.. you will probably cut right through and stick yourself, etc.. This sheath is better as a pocket sleeve in a bag. Plus you will lose the fire started stick.. it would pop right out.. I recommand this knife as a good back up, but not one I would carry on my side..
• Yes, The top of the sheath is made for your belt to go through. I placed mine on the shoulder strap of my back pack for easy access.
• Yes it can
• Yes the top half behind the handle of the knife is a loop
• yes...but consider quality over price!
• yes it can
#Survivor_HK-106320DG_Fixed_Blade_Outdoor

QUESTION: IS THE SHEATH MOLLE COMPATIBLE?
• Negative, it has a belt loop but that's it.
• You could parachord it but the sheath doesn't hold the knife well. If your looking for a patrol knife, spend some more money.
#Survivor_HK-106320DG

QUESTION: HOW'S THE BALANCE? CAN IT BE USED AS THROWING KNIFE?
• I would avoid it, it is not exactly balanced
• I have no idea as I don't think I would be using in it that way. but it small, not too heavy and the grip is well wrapped.
• I don't know anything about throwing knives, but I don't really think so. Its pretty unbalanced, and even without the paracord on the back half of it, it would still be pretty back-heavy. Hope this is helpful.
• This is a very good knife to have in a back pack was well as a survival pack, however I am not a knife througher so I cannot give an answer to the question. I do however feel this is a good knife setup to have. Thanks for asking.
#Fixed_Blade_Outdoor

QUESTION: BLADE LENGTH?

• The blade is 3" long.

QUESTION: HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO START A FIRE?
• Not that long
• It's very hard at the beginning, but if you'll train then it will be easy. As my example.
• depends on what kind of tender you use and how skilled you are at using the fire starter. With goodtender and practice only takes amin or 2
• It should take 10 min. or so. It really depends on a lot of factors. Search youtube there are lots of instructional videos.
• Well, you know the rod has black film on it that you have to remove first. Then it actually worked pretty good. The rod handle came off, but I super glued others back together and it was good as new.
#Survivor_HK-106320DG_Fixed_Blade_Outdoor

QUESTION: IS THE HANDLE SKELINITONIZED UNDERNEATH THE CORD?
• Yes, it is skeletonized. I take off the paracord and rewrap it. Then I use plastic tool dip.
• No.
#Survivor_HK-106320DG

QUESTION: IS THAT ACTUAL 550 PARACORD WRAPPED AROUND THE HANDLE? I DONT SEE ANY GUTS, NOR DOES THE TEXTURE LOOK RIGHT.
• No, it's not true 550 paracord, it's some type of braided cord but seems to be of decent strength.
• I agree with Tactical-T it is not 550 paracord.
• Yes. The cord is wrapped around the base/handle of the knife. I used it will camping last month and the knife was sharp, sturdy, well balance and a good value for the price.
• The good news is that you can wrap it in whatever paracord your heart desires for a couple of dollars, and you can use whatever wrapping technique you want to suit your own hand and preferences.

QUESTION: HOW DOES THE FIRE STARTER WORK?
• The fire starter worked well. I bought the knife for the fire starter. I wanted to practice with an enexpensive one. For the price the knife and fire starter are well worth it. I bought two.
• the fire starter works excellent. it takes a few tries to find the right angle for the blade to create the spark.
• Type magnesium first starter into youtube. There are many many videos. Use back of knife. Hit the starter in a downward motion. It will throw sparks.
• havent tried the fire starter yet, but the knife is nice and cant beat it for the price.
• No it did not unless I am using it wrong..

QUESTION: CAN I STRAP THIS TO MY LEG OR DO I HAVE TO CARRY IT? DOES IT SOME WITH A STRAP
• The carrying case has a belt loop sewn in so you can attach it to your person any way you would like.
• It comes with a belt loop.
• if I could go back I would have never bought this knife the handle is crap and so is the blade
• You could rig any carry option you want through the included belt loop on the holster but I would look at other options. This knife is cheap and you get what you pay for. There are better options while still not spending a ton of money. http://amemphistraveler.blogspot.com
• No strap.

QUESTION: HOW LONG DOES THE FIRE STARTER LAST
• Just got this in the last month, but it is similar to what I've had and they could last 2 to 3 years, depending on how much you use it.
• It's no top dollar starter (obviously). But it lasted long enough for me to get a fire going so I say it's fair enough for the price.
• I'm at least over 100 strikes and still working great
• I wondered the same thing, I've used it twice and it doesn't seem to have lost any of the material on the stick nor did it get shorter. I assume it depends on how hard you scrap it to start a fire!!!!

• Yes sheath is included
• Yes, the sheath holdes the knife and the fire stick.
• Yes it does. It is made out of nylon or polyester and it has a pocket for the fire starting flint stick. Have a nice day.
• Yes about sheath. I made a liner out of plastic milk bottle, for both the knife and the flint. Plus rewrapped the handle with green paracord. Very decent Knife for the money.

• I can't give you an exact measurement. It is definitely thick enough where you won't have to worry about breaking unless you're using it as a pry bar, and even then I think it would take some force. The blade goes all the way through and is wrapped in paracord like material.
• It's about an 1/8 thickness from handle to tapered end of blade, it's not bad for a $5.00 knife with accessory ?

QUESTION: DOES THE SHEATH HAVE A POCKET FOR THE FIRE STARTER?
• Yes. There is a pocket on the front side for the fire starter.
• My son has mine to make some of the improvements discussed in the comments so I don't have it with me at present. However, best I remember .... the fire starter fits inside with the knife. It really is a nice little knife. The fire starter is small and I don't know how well it works but I think the package is not bad for the money.
