QUESTION: DO YOU HAVE TO TIP YOUR HEAD BACK TO DRINK? I HAVE AN OLD "ARTESIAN" BOTTLE WITH INNER STRAW THAT I LOVE. LOOKING FOR SAME WITH WIDE MOUTH FOR ICE.
• Yes, you must tip your head back to drink. My wife has a bottle with a straw and loves it; not so with the Camelbak. The Camelbak leaks between the base and top--I have stopped using it. Not useable.
• No straw in bottle. It was designed to be tilted to drink. It has a diaphragm valve with a large bore stem and a bottle that is thin walled and easily squeezed so that you could get a generous flow. Best bike bottle I own--I plan to trade up all my others.
• Actually, if you tip your head back, you'll drown. I keep my head level and squeeze, plenty comes out. This has a wide mouth, too.
• Sorry, I can't tell. The bottle is covered by insulation which I can't remove.
• This model dose not have a inner straw. It dose have a large opening to pour ice into it. As far as having to tilt your head back to to get liquid out of it my answer is yes and no. The bottle is a squeezable material, so when the bottle is full all you have to do is squeeze to get liquid out. As it empties you have to tilt your head back. I use it every day and I would recommend this product. It works for me.
• Yes, you must tip the bottle to drink. The bottle works with a one way valve and doesn't have a straw component. It relies on the weight of the liquid inside to gravity feed through the valve as you take a drink.
• Unfortunately this model camelbak is not receptive to straws due to a plastic inner chamber type thing below the mouthpiece. This bottle generally has enough pressure to squirt into your mouth without having to tip it back for about the first quarter of your water supply, beyond that it will need to be tipped back. Hope that helps!
• You have to squeeze the bottle to get anything out, so tipping your head back is necessary, but not too far. It's not going to spill if you knock it over.

QUESTION: IS IT BPA FREE?
• Camelback states that the big chill is BPA free. I'm not so sure I trust corporate America, but it is/was on the label.
• It was advertised as BPA free.
• Yes it is
• It is BPA free: http://www.camelbak.com/en/Canada/Sports-Recreation/Bottles/Podium-Big-Chill-25oz.aspx
• No idea, I guess you can go on there website and check or email them directly

QUESTION: WOULD IT BE GOOD FOR TRAVEL? I'D HATE IT IF IT LEAKED IN THE PLANE.
• Stays sealed well, but it works best if you turn the vale to open, screw the top on tight, squeeze out just a bit of air, and then turn the valve to closed again. That makes for a night tight seal that I've never seen leak. I've only seen it leak when I forget to seal by screwing on the top with the valve open. Hope this helps!
• I take mine everywhere and it has never leaked, even when it lays on its side.
• You can turn the top to lock it and prevent water from coming out so it'd be great for flying!
• If it can survive sitting in the saddlebags of my motorcycle with all the bumps and vibration without leaking, I think it would be safe to say that it would be great for travel. As long as you screw the top on tight and lock the valve it shouldn't leak at all.
• The valve has a locking state, but under enough pressure the bottle would leak from the top lid. It is a sports bottle and somewhat soft so that you can squeeze it and drink. You can not take liquids on flights anyway. If you want a bottle for a backpack try a hard shell bottle like the "eddy".
• Purchased for wife, to bring to gym and for travel. She has used it mainly for gym so far, but has yet to complain about it leaking and I haven't seen it leak, even on it's side. Has a "dial" on top to open or close valve. Lid fits on tight.

QUESTION: DISHWASHER SAFE?
• I wash mine in dishwasher all the time
• Top rack does fine.
• It is top shelf dishwasher safe, but I hand wash it because it is too tall to fit on the top shelf in my dishwasher.
• no it is recommended that you wash by hand the main body portion. The cap and tip however can be disassembled and washed in the dishwasher.

QUESTION: DOES THIS BOTTLE HAVE A STANDARD 63MM SCREW TOP? I HAVE A CAMELBAK ALL CLEAR UV HEAD AND I WANT TO KNOW IF IT FITS THIS BOTTLE.
• Yes It does, I just tested it. I have their older podium bottles some with clear tops as well. For the record this one is significantly better. You can suck on this one as opposed to having to spray the water into your mouth like the older ones.
• I checked the Podium replacement cap specifications on their website and it appears to me that the replacement cap for this bottle is not the standard 63mm screw top. This is based on the website stating "The Podium Replacement Cap fits all CamelBak Podium and Podium insulated bottles (Chill, Big Chill and Ice)," appearing only to include those three bottles. The Camelbak Classic Cap actually states that it is 63mm compatible, so by process of elimination with both of those products, I would say that it probably doesn't have a standard 63mm screw top. Unfortunately, I haven't actually tried using a 63mm screw top with my Podium water bottle, so I don't know with 100% certainty.

QUESTION: CAN YOU FREEZE THEM WITH WATER INSIDE?
• Yes but don't fill completely(about 3/4 or less) leave lid loose.
• Excellent
• I second what "Amazon Customer" said. With the special no-spill valve, you definately must leave the lid VERY loose. I would not want to risk damaging the insulating bottle layers by expanding freezing water.

QUESTION: I PURCHASED 2 OF THESE LAST YEAR & DEVELOPED A MOLD INSIDE THE MOUTH PIECE. HOW DO WE KEEP / OR GET THESE CLEAN?
• After cleaning, shake or blow the mouthpiece dry and leave in open position so air can circulate. If mold persists you can warranty this item: Camelbak items and their parts have a lifetime warranty which is available to customers online at: http://www.camelbak.com/en/GYB/Select-Category.aspx
• I read about a similar situation with children's sippy cups. So the key is to keep it dry after each use. I do this by emptying the bottle and placing it upside down on a towel. Then I rinse the spout and also place on the towel next to the bottle. Once in a while I place the bottle and spout in a bowl of soap and hot water, and I often check the spout if it needs brushing - I use a toothbrush.
• I haven't had that problem with this item (yet), but if I did I would soak it in a solution of a capful of Clorox bleach and a bowl of water. Then wash with soap and water thoroughly. Repeat if necessary. Good luck.

QUESTION: BPA FREE???
• According to their website they are 100% BPA and BPS free, greatly reducing the risk of carcinogen exposure and the resulting health implications. I hope this helps!
• Yes, it is labeled "BPA Free" on the bottle.
• it is still plastic and all plastic are bad to have food and drinks in them but, yes BPA free.

QUESTION: ANYONE ELSE HAVING ISSUES WITH MILDEW IN THE LID? I CLEAN MINE AFTER EACH USE BUT THE VALVE DOESN'T DRY WELL. STARTED AFTER ABOUT 6 MO.
• No none. When you wash it just fill with hot soapy water and spray it into glass and then hold the tip in the glass and squeeze and release and that should keep it very clean, due to the makeup of the lid it takes a little bit to keep it clean but the functionality way off set that. If after that you haven't cleaned the existing mildew just put it in a microwavable safe container and microwave it until it starts to boil. Hope this helps
• Yes I have, but only after a few rides when I forgot my bottle in the bike, from one day to the next morning. Usually I just rinse it with fresh water and after a few minutes drying it hanging it upside down, I place it in the freezer. This prevents the mildew to appaear, but those few times that I forgot it, the mildew appeared. I have cleaned it up with white soap and that was it. Back to the 'freezer' saving again.

QUESTION: NICE BOTTLE, BUT TWO PROBLEMS.TOO BIG OD (25OZ) & NO LOOP/LANYARD HOLE. ANY SOLUTIONS FOR LANYARD?
• It's made for a bicycle. If you are looking for a loop look at a different product.
• They make an accessory that is kind of a coozy with an adjustable velcro strap for you hand. Adds a little more insulation too.

QUESTION: IS THIS BOTTLE METAL? IS IT LOUD? I'M LOOKING FOR SOMETHING RELATIVELY QUIET FOR HUNTING
• No it is not metal. It is plastic. It's squeezable so sometimes it will make a sucking noise when the air draws back in.
• A very high quality soft plastic... Perfect for hunting!
• All plastic. The squeeze function makes a suction, squirting, and "crinkle" sound when squeezing.
• No, it is softer kind of plastic with insulation ( something scrunched up in a layer) under that, will hardly make noise if you knock on anything and soft squeeze-no noise.
• Plastic, and quiet.
• It's not metal. It's plastic. Makes no sound.
• Bottle is a semi soft plastic with a cooling liner. Not loud at all, however husband said the liner that is to keep the water cool does not perform well. Water warmed down just as fast as a regular bottle. Nice overall design, fits well into any holder
• No it is not metal, it is made out of BPA plastic. I would recommend it.

QUESTION: IS THIS DISHWASHER SAFE?
• Based on manufactures description, the bottle is top rack dishwasher safe.
• yes
• I really don't know. You can probably go to the Camelbak website to learn more about it. I personally would not put it in a dishwasher.
• No, unless you plan on not running the heated dry cycle.

QUESTION: IS IT SAFE THAT I FREEZE WATER INTO THE BOTTLE IN THE FREEZER? BECAUSE IT DOES NOT KEEP WATER COLD THAN I EXPECTED.
• I've never tried that but I think it would be fine. I used to fill my old water bottle up a little less than halfway and then freeze it laying on its side. That way half would be ice and I could fill the rest with water, it would stay cold all day.
• I freeze mine all the time. Like Haley, I fill it halfway with water and freeze on its side. It works great in the Texas heat keeping your water colder longer.
• It must be safe, but unlikely it makes sense. Bottle temperature would have minimal impact on keeping the liquid cold. If you freeze the liquid - you cant drink it. I think its best to fill as much as possible with ice and add water on top before use.
• I know the bottle is BPA free but I don't know if freezing it is safe. I just fill it with ice first and wrap it in a large coozie since it will sweat a lot as the ice melts.

• There is a 5 on the bottom.
• Not sure what you are looking for but there is a 5 recycling number on it
• No. 5 - 25 oz. bottle - tag states "BPA free"
• 5
• Yes, there is a number on the bottom

QUESTION: HI ALL, ARE THESE BOTTLES MUCH LARGER THAN STANDARD BOTTLES? DOES ANYONE HAVE ISSUES USING THESE WITH STANDARD CAGES? THANK YOU! ADAM
• No, they are similarly sized. They fit in both of my standard sized cages.
• They're taller but not any fatter. I haven't had issues with any of the cages I own.
• I have a bottle of these, and use a standard cage, without any problem, I occupied a Specialized Zee Cage II Rigth.
• Hi Adam. These bottles fit into a standard cage just fine. They are just slightly taller than the 20 oz size, but same size around. We purchased two of these from the bike shop at a bit more money, you know, to try them out, and loved them. They work great in a standard cage and they are a lot more affordable than the bike shop, esp. If you get one of the"off" colors.
• so I assume they fit in the car bottle holder as well? also this one is chemical free?
